Photography expedition – Braselton Georgia
Hi folks, and welcome to our first “photography expedition.” These expeditions are to locations that aren’t too far from home, but present some hopefully interesting venues for you and, present some interesting new ideas for your own photography.

One of the goals of these expeditions is to help illustrate that good photography can be anywhere, even your backyard. In fact, some of my favorite stuff has been in my own neighborhood. So, don’t think that great images must be takenĀ in exotic, or tourist locations.
Now, on to our first expedition [ see all of the photographs from our photography expeditions ]. The first place we scouted out was mentioned briefly in an earlier blog where I mentioned how unique these scraped man-made fields and hills appeared to me. This expedition takes place on top of one of these small mounds facing a busy road and a few businesses.
This spot is really not too far from home, around 10 miles and right off a major interstate. When we set up we weren’t exactly sure what we would capture, hoping for a few decent sunset photos. But, like I said, once we got up there we found quite a few photographic opportunities, which you can see in our video. There was thistle, clouds, a few night shots and a strange photo with broken up asphault.
One thing we did make a mistake of doing, which I keep doing for some dumb reason, is leaving without a flashlight. Not so smart when your climb up steep hillsides with lots of pits and deep holes. And it got just about pitch black when we started to come out. Oh, and never forget the Deet, we did. And those bugs were just huge, I think they were starving to death or something.
We almost waited for some lightning toward the end of the shoot, but fearing rain, and not having proper cover for the equipment we decided to split. Overall, we spent around two hours and got some decent to good photos out of the deal. It was great fun, and provided some great time outdoors with a new perspective on creative ways to shoot.

Hey Mark, I’m definitely enjoying these video blogs you’re doing. Keep them up. I love the area w/the flowers. Makes me want to go there for a shoot!
