Little Mulberry Hawk

T

his hawk photograph was made by pure chance one day in Little Mulberry Park. What I was really hunting that day was the Karina Miller Waterfall located as it turns out in the middle of the park.

I was walking near a  hiking trail close the Karina Miller Nature Preserve when I came close to the fallen tree pictured in the photograph. It must have been near this birds nest since it sat in this position for the entire time I was there. In fact, I had time to change out into the longest lens I had in my bag, a 200mm lens. I was able to creep a bit closer to make a few images before it hopped over to an adjacent branch that didn’t offer as good shot.

What makes this image so great is the fact it happened during the peak of fall, providing a great backdrop for the hawk. Plus, the chances for an image like this is very unique around the area it was made.
