Freemans Mill Park in Gwinnett County

  • Freemans Mill Park in Gwinnett County

Freemans Mill Park is a small 12 acre park nestled in a little valley in northern Gwinnett County. The park consists of a restored mill, old rock dam, a portion of the Alcovy river and a few hidden gems as well.

If you’re coming to photograph this park as a landscape photograph you may find the most interesting part of this park to be the old dam. It consists of the old rock walls and flowing river. There is also the restored mill if you are using this spot for portrait work.

Photographing the dam
The dam consists of an old busted rock wall with water spilling over into a pool below. The river then runs around a bend and under the bridge on Harbins road. To photograph this spot you may want to climb down to the shore line. Be aware that many visitors like to stroll in the edge of the water so, plan your trip with that in mind.

The Mill
This mill has recently be restored which makes practical sense but, can add an air of artificiality to the setting. I don’t normally focus on the mill but, I think it could be a good spot for some portrait work. If you walk to the back of the mill you may be able to get the water wheel as well.

Hidden Gems
The really best part of this park is actually located adjacent to the park proper. Two waterfalls are located along the upper reaches of the ravine.
